Teen Pregnancy: Having Babies Too
Soon On average, one million teenagers get pregnant each year. Designed
to examine some of the reasons why, this program provides Health and Guidance,
and Life Skills classes with a real-world illustration of the relationship
between human sexuality, behavioral choices and personal well-being. Students'
understanding of the possible consequences of unsafe behaviors, their
health and future is reinforced through the experiences of more than forty
teen mothers. Their choices, lives and hopes for the future give students
insight into some of the problems and issues unique to teen parents. The
harsh realities of life as a teen mother quickly take the "romance" out
of having a baby. © 1996 Back to STD's and Pregnancy | Top
Thumbs Up For Kids: AIDS Education
Ruby Petersen-Unger, a former "Romper Room" teacher & producer, interacts
with a small group of children while teaching about disease prevention
in general and AIDS in particular. The children, including a child in
a wheelchair and a six year old who as a premature infant contracted AIDS
through a blood transfusion, learn about germs & the difference between
the "AIDS" germ and a "cold germ." Through song, dance, rap tunes & visual
effects, children discover that AIDS is hard to get---that it's safe to
play, share toys, and attend class with someone who has AIDS. The importance
of keeping clean and ways in which doctors, nurses, teachers, parents,
and other caring adults help children are stressed. Bronze Apple --- National
