Unit I. An Overview The
essential components of a high-quality group program is illustrated
in this informative video. You will visit a successful childcare program
as they stress the importance of quality care. This video is an excellent
review for childcare workers and their staff, or as a resource for parents
learning how to choose a good child care.
Unit II. Health and Safety
Standard health and safety procedures used in a child-care setting are

"Child Abuse Prevention" stresses that child abuse isn't always
physical or sexual, a child can also be abused verbally or through
neglect. Find out how you can get help for a child you think is
being abused, or someone you think may be an abuser. This program
shows how we can work together to prevent and stop child abuse.

Child Abuse Prevention: Crimes Against
the Innocent Through dramatized vignettes, children will learn how
to protect themselves from strangers and others who violate their well-being.
This video defines good touching and bad touching while focusing on the
problem of adults' misdirected behavior. Children will learn where they
can find help from dangerous situations and more. Grades K-4
P.S.: Caring for Pretty Special
Children: Abused or Neglected This curriculum is specially structured
for the training of care givers of abused and neglected children. It consists
of six, 15 min. segments on one video. Each program provides the child
care staff with easily understood information necessary for day-to-day
problems they encounter. The major topics in this series includes: specific
behaviors of abused children, working with these special children in groups,
professional behavior for the caregiver, how to recognize abuse and neglect,
and working with the parents of special children.
McGruff On Self-Protection: Preventing
Child Abuse And Neglect Every child has the right to feel safe and
protected. McGruff the Crime Dog explains to his nephew, Scruff, that
any form of child abuse or neglect is against the law, and that help is
available to children who need it. Dramatizations from McGruff's files
feature children who have learned how to handle themselves in abusive
and neglectful situations. Three scenarios examine cases of child neglect,
physical abuse and sexual abuse. In each case, the children have worrisome
secrets that they are afraid to reveal. With the encouragement of McGruff
and other trusted adults, they discuss their fears and learn that everyone
is a valuable person and has the right to be safe and protected. McGruff
stresses that in order to deal with their problems, it is important for
children to talk to a trusted adult whenever they're in a harmful situation
or they're feeling uncomfortable about something. © 1993
New Year's Pam, Uncle Wilbur, and Buffy
count down the minutes until midnight when Buffy drops the clock, they
all think time stands still. They work on the clock to make it run. The
Farley Sisters ask Uncle Wilbur what time it is and he looks at his watch.
They all realize that time moves on, even without the clock.
St. Patrick's Day Pam shares a story about
Leprechauns and before she gets to the part about them not being real,
Buffy and Uncle Wilbur get the idea to catch a Leprechaun. They plot and
scheme to catch one and to get the pot of gold so they can buy the things
they want. Pam teaches them to not only listen more carefully, but the
importance of working and saving for their hearts' desires.
Easter Pam unselfishly uses her money
to get something new for Uncle Wilbur and Buffy for Easter, even though
she needs a new Easter bonnet. Uncle Wilbur and Buffy don't have much
money, so they make Pam a new hat. It is, by far, the ugliest hat ever,
but Pam is so touched by their efforts, she proudly wears the hat for
Easter.
Mother's Day Uncle Wilbur writes his mother
a letter, and with Buffy's help, he decides to exaggerate his lifestyle
in the "Land of La". He thinks his mother will love him more and will
be more proud of him if he is the king and lives in a castle. Pam insists
he tell her the truth - which he does, and learns his mom loves him unconditionally.
Father's Day Pam recollects memories of
her dad when she was a child. They show pictures of the kids' dads and
talk about favorite activities with their dads.
Halloween Pam and Uncle Wilbur are having
a great time with their costumes, but Buffy is frightened. Uncle Wilbur
plays tricks on everyone. Pam helps Buffy realize that it is all just
pretend, and she need not be afraid.
Thanksgiving Pam remembers Thanksgiving
as a child. Pam, Buffy, and Uncle Wilbur think about all the things they
have to be thankful for. They cook and eat Thanksgiving dinner.
Christmas Pam sings Christmas carols with
the help of special guests, the Farley Sisters. Uncle Wilbur helps Pam
read " The Night Before Christmas" with a comic flair. Buffy and Uncle
Wilbur learn the true meaning of Christmas. Item
