DUI: Every Fifteen Minutes Program
opens with a variety of high school students on a typical Friday afternoon.
They are smiling and relaxed-each one busy with friends, sports and after-school
projects. Then comes the sound of a car sliding out of control, a horn
blaring...the crash of metal and glass. A vivid reenactment shows the
brutal aftermath of an alcohol-related car crash. It is the final destination
for four teenagers and the highly realistic simulation of an actual event.
Each haunting scene that follows shows a different consequence of the
crash. From a parent hearing about the loss of her child, to the failed
attempts to save an airlifted patient, we witness the inescapable anger
and helplessness felt by the victims. Equally effective are glimpses of
the driver's ordeal-from humiliation and arrest at the scene of the crash,
to the pain and fear of sobering up at the police station. The program
ends with images of the victims, along with names and brief descriptions
of young people involved in the crash. Together, their faces make for
a powerful ending that will not be easily forgotten. Back to Driving Under the Influence
DUI: Choices And Consequence
This dramatization on the consequences of driving under the influence
of intoxicants features Jack Hamilton, a young college student who decides
to unwind from the pressures of school, work and family life by having
"a few beers." The three drinks he consumes are enough to slow his reflexes,
impair his judgment and raise his blood alcohol level to the point of
intoxication. Within moments of getting behind the wheel, Jack causes
a collision that results in severe injury to another driver. The consequences
of Jack's arrest illustrate the overwhelming financial and legal damage
caused by drinking and driving. Even after Jack serves his time, he must
cope with two years of probation, suspension of his driver's license,
and a conviction record that will mar his chance of finding employment.
First time offenders who think that they are immune to the severe consequences
of being arrested for DUI will be reminded that today's courts impose
heavy punishments on drivers who are DUI Back to Driving Under the Influence
Just One More In the United States,
an estimated 513,000 people are injured in alcohol-related crashes each
year - approximately one person every minute. Drunk driving is the leading
cause of death among teenagers and is considered the nation's most frequently
committed violent crime. Yet, few people think about the consequence of
driving while "under the influence." Kimberly Matthews is a high school
teen with a dream and tremendous talent for running. Track events are
her life, and she's just days away from competing in the state track championships.
Then, an alcohol-infused party, a few beers, and a reckless decision to
drive while intoxicated change everything for Kimberly. In one dreadful
moment, she loses control and swerves off the road, wrecking her car -
and her life. Her injuries leave her with little chance of ever walking
again, much less running. Nothing for Kimberly will ever be the same.
"Just One More" is a powerful dose of reality that debunks the myth that
an individual can drink and still drive safely. A driver can pay a heavy
price for having "just one more." Back to Driving Under the Influence
The Reality Of Drug Use A group
of four teens - Carissa, Kriss, Stephen and Crystal - all use marijuana
regularly. Although their drug use causes problems they each profess that
smoking weed is their hobby and their passion. When they are "flipped",
each must confront his or her drug use in a different way. Arrested for
being under the influence and convicted of drug trafficking, Stephen is
sent to a treatment facility for a term of up to 18 months. Kriss, who
believes driving under the influence is an acceptable risk, is the driver
in a DUI car wreck. Transported to hospital, he learns he's been "paralyzed
for life". Carissa is thrown out of her home by her tough love Mom, stays
at a hostel for homeless teens, then "overdoses on methamphetamines and
dies". Crystal, the "ringer" in the group has a real-life story: her brother
Caleb did die of a drug overdose. The teens react strongly to their dramatized
situations, vowing they don't want to see any of this happen for real.
